Huesito Becomes a Rockhound
Today was an important day. Huesito decided he was ready to become a rockhound.
He climbed onto the rock table, looked over every stone with great seriousness, and confidently announced that he knew exactly which one would make the perfect gemstone.
I wasn't quite as confident.
After all, I'm still learning myself.
But that's the wonderful thing about rockhounding. Every beautiful cabochon begins as an ordinary-looking rock. You have to slow down, look closely, and imagine what might be hiding inside.
Huesito didn't know the names of the stones yet. He didn't know the difference between jasper and agate or why some rocks polish better than others.
He simply saw possibilities.
And honestly, that's how many of us begin.
By the end of the afternoon, Huesito proudly carried around his favorite rock, convinced he'd found hidden treasure.
Maybe he had.
Or maybe the real treasure was learning to see ordinary rocks in a whole new way.
I think he'll make a fine rockhound.
